Alcorn faculty publishes first book
Alcorn State University’s reputation for its talented students, faculty and staff continues to be showcased.
Dr. Shani K. Collins, assistant professor of social work at Alcorn State University, has written her first book, The SHE Devotional: 31 Daily Inspirations for a Woman’s Spirit, Health and Emotions. The book offers spiritual insight to help draw women closer to a higher power. It also offers simple fitness and nutritional suggestions to help women achieve better health. Finally, it offers strategies to promote emotional balance.
“I wrote this book for busy women who seek to better manage their daily walk with Christ, their physical health and their emotions,” said Collins. “I strongly believe if a woman’s spiritual life is out of balance, it impacts her health and her emotions, and vice versa.”
Collins’ goal for her book is to boost the self-esteem of women by helping them realize the importance of their existence.
“When there is no balance in a person’s life, there is no peace. I hope The SHE Devotional empowers women to engage in more self-care. I think women are precious jewels who add value to their families and their communities. Often, women place the needs of others above their own. Doing so can be to the detriment of their spiritual, physical, and emotional health. Self-love begins with self-care.”
The Kindle version of The SHE Devotional can be pre-ordered now on Amazon.com. Both paperback and Kindle versions of the book can be purchased via Amazon, Barnes & Noble, and CreateSpace on October 30, 2015.
A native of Greenwood, Mississippi, Collins joined the Department of Social Work in August 2014. She is an alumna of Tougaloo College, Clark Atlanta University and The University of Alabama.
Her second book will be released in 2016. For more information, contact Collins at [email protected].
