Alcorn State University’s School of Business has relaunched its hospitality management concentration within its Master of Business Administration (MBA) program, responding to the ever-changing demands of the tourism and hospitality sectors.

The revamped program, fully accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP), offers a unique curriculum designed to develop the next generation of hospitality industry leaders.

With a total investment of under $15,000, the program represents an accessible pathway to advanced education in one of Mississippi’s key economic sectors.

According to Visit Mississippi’s annual Tourism Economic Contribution Report, Mississippi “welcomed a record 43.7 million visitors in 2023. This visitor volume has resulted in a record-breaking $17.5 billion contribution to Mississippi’s economy.”

“We are committed to equipping our students with the knowledge and skills they need to thrive in the ever-changing environment of tourism and hospitality,” said Dr. Antwon D. Woods, dean of the School of Business. “Our renewed program, which has courses fully online, aims to blend theoretical rigor with practical application, ensuring our graduates are not just job-ready but are also strategic thinkers and innovators in their field.”

The program features a flexible, self-paced online delivery format structured around 30 credit hours of coursework. Students benefit from eight-week course modules and can complete their degree in as little as one academic year.

Its curriculum covers operational, financial, and strategic aspects of hospitality management while integrating practical and theoretical learning experiences.

The program’s structure allows students to take one or two courses at a time, enabling deeper engagement with course material while maintaining work-life balance.

The online format makes it accessible to working professionals seeking to advance their careers in the hospitality industry.
