Alcorn’s WPRL 91.7 FM Radio adds radio station
Alcorn State University’s coverage of the Braves’ football team will be broadcasted to more people across the state of Mississippi.
WPRL 91.7 FM Radio added WAZA 1077 FM Monday, Aug. 22, to the list of stations that broadcast Braves football games and The Fred McNair Show. WAZA is a 25,000-watt station in Liberty, Mississippi, covering Liberty, McComb and Brookhaven. The station plans to air all of the football games on the radio station and the live stream at WAZA1077.com.
Charles Edmond, WPRL’s sports director and operational manager, said that adding new stations is a major factor to expand the publicity of Braves sports.
“Our goal is to get Alcorn athletics as much exposure as possible,” said Edmond. “Having the radio network in more key markets in the state is important.”
By adding more radio stations, Edmond believes that the coverage will encourage more high school students to consider furthering their educations at Alcorn.
Benji Embry, operations director for Southwest Broadcasting, is excited to broadcast Alcorn football to Braves fans in his coverage area.
“We’re ecstatic to be apart of the Alcorn family,” said Embry. “Alcorn State University fits our demographic perfectly because there are a ton of Braves fans in Southwest Mississippi.
Edmond said that WPRL’s goal is to broadcast Alcorn athletic events over the entire state of Mississippi.
