Adrian McLain attends the 66th Mississippi Counseling Association Conference
Alcorn State University’s Adrian McLain is on the recruiting trail.
McLain, an Alcorn recruiter and admissions advisor, attended the 66th annual Mississippi Counseling Association Conference Wednesday, Nov. 2 at the Mississippi Gulf Coast Coliseum and Convention Center in Biloxi. The conference was an opportunity for counselors from elementary, middle and high school, community colleges and universities in Mississippi to come together and share ideas about their profession as well as advance their field at their institutions.
“The Mississippi Counseling Association’s goals are paramount to the counselors in our state,” said McLain. Their objectives are to encourage the personal and professional development of counselors, influence decisions that affect the counseling profession and promote progress, understanding and improvement in counseling.”
While there, McLain used the opportunity to promote the University among his peers and some of the students that attended the conference.
“Students and educators must be afforded the opportunity to become familiar with Alcorn State University. We are a family with a rich tradition and heritage and must make sure that everyone knows it. The Alcorn experience is like no other.”
The conference has prompted McLain to use his newfound counseling knowledge to better prepare high school students for future success.
“Attending the conference helped me to know how I can be a part of Alcorn’s presence in our community. I have spoken with a few of the counselors from Claiborne and Jefferson Counties, and I, with assistance from Alcorn, hope that we can do more to help guide and mentor the students in our community with high school studies, ACT and college preparation.”
McLain was excited to meet fellow alumni at the conference. He said it was nice to see so many Alcornites prospering in their careers.
“I really enjoyed myself. I met so many Alcornites who are greatly involved in the public school system as counselors. It was great to hear their experiences on the reservation and how their Alcorn background laid the foundation for their careers today.”
