Dr. LaShundia Carson named IHL representative for the Board of Directors
Alcorn State University’s Dr. LaShundia Carson is advancing as a leader in her career as an educator.
Carson was named the Institution of Higher Learning representative for the Board of Directors at the Mississippi Professional Educators 2017 Best Practices Symposium at the Hilton Hotel Saturday, April 8 in Jackson, Mississippi.
The Mississippi Professional Educators (MPE) is a statewide professional organization whose members come from all aspects of educational systems in the state and is an alternative to union participation. MPE’s members include teachers, administrators and non-certified staff from kindergarten to graduate school level.
Carson is proud of her latest accomplishment. She looks forward to broadening her knowledge of what occurs in other school districts so that she can equip her student teachers to have successful careers as educators.
“I am honored to have the opportunity to serve as the IHL representative on the Board of Directors,” said Carson. “Being a board member will give me a greater insight on what’s going on in our school districts across the state, which will help me better strengthen Alcorn’s teacher education program.”
Alcorn’s MPE Chapter, under the leadership of Carson, has conducted several community service projects such as promoting early literacy in local elementary schools and donating school supplies to students. Carson also plays an important role in shaping Alcorn’s student teachers into bright educators during the annual Pre-Service Seminars on campus.
