Alcorn’s Meridian/Lauderdale Alumni Chapter holds annual Purple and Gold Scholarship Banquet
Each year, Alcorn State University’s Meridian/Lauderdale Alumni Chapter goes above and beyond to support their beloved alma mater.
The Chapter did the same this year by hosting the Purple and Gold Scholarship Banquet Friday, April 28 at the MSU Riley Center in Meridian, Mississippi. A total of 17 high school seniors were awarded scholarships during the program. The students are: Tamiera Gibbs, Christina Coon, Krystal Gates, Destinee Slater, Trayana Carter, Demetria Walker, Zykierra Harbin, Kyra Kapers, Logan Nave, Destiny Clark, Ajah Edwards, Kai Horne, Gabriel Johnson, Brianna Porter, Alan Sanders, Tyrell Lewis and Lauren Scott.
Also during the banquet, Chapter President, Wilbert Jones, presented President Alfred Rankins Jr. with a check for $45,000 for the ASU Foundation, which will be used to provide scholarships in various academic departments.
Emanuel Barnes, vice president for Student Affairs, delivered the keynote address for the banquet. He encouraged the audience to never forget the past, celebrate the present and honor the future.
