Funeral arrangements scheduled for Regina Carr
The young life of former Alcorn State University sophomore and biology/pre-pharmacy major, Regina Carr, will be celebrated next week.
A vigil will be held at Brighton Park in Clinton, Mississippi Saturday, Sept. 23 at 6 p.m. Those wishing to pay respect are encouraged to attend the public viewing from 8 a.m. until 5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 24 at Westhaven Memorial Funeral Home, located on 3580 Robinson Road in Jackson, Mississippi.
Funeral arrangements for Carr will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Sept. 25 at Greater Pearlie Grove M.B. Church, located on 1640 W. County Line Road in Jackson. Prior to the funeral, a viewing will be held from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m.
Carr, a 20-year-old Clinton, Mississippi native, was killed in a car accident on the Natchez Trace Parkway Wednesday, Sept. 21.
During her time as a student at Alcorn, Carr was known for her kind and inviting personality. When the opportunity came to lend a helping hand, Carr was one that her peers could count on for support. Robert Tatum Jr., junior class president and friend of Carr, reflected on how impactful Carr was in the lives of others.
“She was so sweet,” said Tatum. “Her essence was as pure as you could imagine. She was always very helpful, and she maintained a positive attitude. She embodied what it meant to be a role model. Her personality was the closest thing to perfect.”
Moriah Battiest, who serves as Miss Junior, met Carr during her freshman year. She echoed Tatum’s feelings about Carr being an outstanding person.
“She was a really kind person,” said Battiest. “Whenever we would speak to each other, we would always see how the other was doing. Overall, she was a really great individual.”
Emanuel Barnes, vice president for Student Affairs, shared his remorse for all of those who loved and cared for Carr.
“Regina was a young, intelligent student who had her whole life ahead of her,” said Barnes. “This tragedy is a tough one because she was so young and full of life. Her death is especially heartbreaking for the Alcorn family, because her parents are alumni. We’re asking everyone to please keep the Carr family and friends in your prayers.”
