Students Fellowship and Play During Annual Harvest Fest
Under the “Big Top” was this year’s theme for the third annual Harvest Festival, held Thursday, Oct. 26 from 5-9 p.m. in the E. E. Simmons Gymnasium, Lorman campus.
According to Casnacita S. Gray, student services coordinator, the event is held annually for students within the School, and includes a fun evening of games, music, giveaways and refreshments.
“This is the third year we’ve hosted this event,” Gray said. “It’s purpose is to give our incoming freshmen an opportunity to meet and interact with our sophomores, juniors and seniors. It is also a way for faculty and staff to engage with our student population.”
During the event, students had the opportunity to play games such as balloon dart, hosted by Shea Davis-Gray, administrative assistant. “I give each student two tries to pop a balloon with a dart.” Davis-Gray said. “Underneath each balloon, there is a circus-related image to coordinate with our theme. Each image corresponds to a prize level. To win our grand prize, students need to pop the balloon with the image of a ‘big top’ circus tent.”
Patricia Leonard and Tedrick Hargrave also helped to coordinate the event. Students played cards games, organized basketball tournaments and fellowshipped with faculty, staff and peers. Grilled refreshments were offered Perry Brumfield, Director of Operations, and served by Rodricka Allen and Aubrey Jackson, student ambassadors for the School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences.
Cameron Green, a senior agribusiness major, was among those who partook in the event.
“One of my professors, Mr. Hargrave, shared info about the event with us during class,” Green said. “I’m glad I came out. It’s always great to get everyone together. I’ve met people tonight that I’ve never seen before,” he concluded, before heading back to the court to shoot basketball.
With over 175 attendees, Gray calls the event “a huge success.”
