Alcorn, Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce partner to promote the University with a new initiative
The Mississippi Department of Agriculture and Commerce (MDAC) and Alcorn State University announces a promotional partnership during a joint press conference Tuesday, Feb. 9, at MDAC’s building in Jackson, Mississippi. The partnership is part of a new initiative to promote universities within the state through MDAC’s Bureau of Regulatory Services inspection stickers. Each division within the Bureau will feature the school colors of the chosen university for one year.
Alcorn was selected as the first university whose purple and gold colors will be featured around Mississippi.
“I am thrilled about this exciting initiative to promote Mississippi’s institutions of higher learning through MDAC’s Bureau of Regulatory Services’ inspection stickers, especially as Alcorn State University is celebrating its 150th anniversary this year,” said Nave. “As the oldest public historically black land-grant institution in the nation and the second-oldest state-supported university in Mississippi, we’re honored and proud to have the Bureau feature Alcorn’s purple and gold.
“We’re excited to have Alcorn State University as the first university represented on our Bureau of Regulatory Services inspection stickers, which will be seen at various businesses across the state,” said Gipson in an MDAC press release. “As the oldest public historically Black land-grant institution in the United States, Alcorn State University has a rich history in agriculture, and we are proud to incorporate their school colors on MDAC’s official inspection stickers for 2021.”
Gibson was recently awarded the 2021 Braves Pioneer Award by the University’s School of Agriculture and Applied Sciences that is given to the entity that has demonstrated a strong passion for Mississippi and exemplified the Alcorn spirit through their professional commitment.
With a 150-year tradition in agriculture, Alcorn has a longstanding relationship with MDAC. The University houses the state’s only Metrology Laboratory. The Laboratory is operated by MDAC and accredited by the National Institute of Standards and Technology to test mass, volume, and length. The Laboratory uses these standards to calibrate the weights and volume measures used by MDAC and service companies that install, repair, and test scales and gas pumps used for commerce throughout Mississippi.
