Alcorn Extension Participates in the annual Mississippi State Fair
The Alcorn State University Extension Program had the awesome opportunity to meet members of the community and share valuable information during the annual Mississippi State Fair, Oct. 4-15. Gerald Jones, director of county operations, Claiborne County Extension Office, served as the ASUEP chair of the Mississippi State Fair.
“Many fairgoers were extremely excited to see the return of the sugarcane syrup processing demonstration on the fairground mid-way this year,” Jones said. “We received so many positive comments from all aspects of the exhibit, particularly the programmatic demonstrations which included nutritional recipes for fall, clonal propagation of fruit crops, how to create unique and affordable home decorations, cooking sugarcane syrup and value-added marketing of vegetables crops.”
The Alcorn County Store Outlet exhibit was also onsite, providing a marketing opportunity for the local vendors to sell their products and to receive additional exposure.
“Overall, this year’s state fair sugarcane syrup processing demonstration, the programmatic demonstrations along with the Country Store Outlet were a huge success and Alcorn Extension Program look forward to expanding in 2018,” Jones added.
Manola Erby, youth development specialist, managed the daily ASUEP activities.
