Alcorn names university’s new chief of police
Alcorn State, Miss. (August 19, 2013) – Alcorn State University named Michael Storr the university’s new chief of police. Storr, who has spent more than 30 years in law enforcement, begins his new job at the start of the academic year.

Dr. Betty Roberts, senior vice president and COO, said that Storr has a “passion and strong understanding of high-quality campus policing and his history of building productive relationships with students and employees will benefit Alcorn greatly.”
Storr, a Bahamas native, most recently served as police chief at Grambling State University. He began his law enforcement career in 1981 with the Royal Bahamas Police Department. He joined the police force at Langston University in Langston, Okla., in 1996. He was promoted to chief of that police department in 2007.
Storr earned both his master’s and bachelor’s degrees from Langston University.
Members of the search committee were impressed with Storr’s commitment to strengthening safety and security on the campus and his background in assessing and implementing strategies for addressing crisis and disaster planning for campuses.
“Chief Storr was the only candidate that shared his plan for establishing a student mentoring program for campus police,” says Vice President for Media and University Relations Clara Ross Stamps. “Our students and campus community want a progressive and transparent leader.”
Alcorn selected Storr after a lengthy search process that attracted 30 state-wide and national applicants.
“The pool of candidates and final interviewees were impressive,” explains Dr. Roberts. “But Chief Storr’s knowledge, experience and leadership stood out. I am confident that he will be an asset to Alcorn and its future.”
Storr’s years in university law enforcement helped him create a multi-pronged plan that positively connects officers, staff, students and community members.
“Prior to my interview, I arrived on Alcorn’s campus and immediately felt connected to this place and its people,” says Storr. “I am honored to join the Alcorn family and look forward to collaborating and developing a first-class police department.”
