Division of Student Services holds Student Leadership Round Table Discussion

On October 16, 2013, Alcorn students, faculty and staff packed the Gold Room in the Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Facility as the Division of Student Services held its first fall 2013 Student Leadership Roundtable Discussion.

The activity, presided by Emanuel Barnes, deputy provost for Student Service, is designed for students to develop leadership skills through dialogue with administrators, faculty, staff and guest lecturers. During Roundtable, students share classroom successes, co-curricular experiences, and have an opportunity to discuss issues relevant to campus life.

The guest speaker for the event was Reverend C. Edward Rhodes II, Alcorn’s new rector of the Oakland Memorial Chapel.

“We are excited for Rev. Rhodes to join Alcorn State University as rector,” said Mr. Barnes. “Today, Rev. Rhodes introduced himself, explained his role as rector and invited students, faculty and staff to attend weekly chapel services and support the service programming.”

Rev. Rhodes also serves as director of Student Religious Life at Alcorn and supervises all of the university’s faith groups – the Baptist Student Union, the Wesley Foundation, the COGIC Club, the Muslim Student Association and others.

“We invite the Alcorn family and community for our services that will be held every Sunday while the University is open,” said Rev. Rhodes. “Please join us at 10:30 a.m. in the Oakland Memorial Chapel.”

The next installment of Student Leadership Roundtable Discussion will take place November 20, at 11:30 a.m. in the Gold Room of the Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Facility. For more information, contact Division of Student Services at 601.877.6380.
