Alcorn mathematics and computer science students and faculty participate in workshop on integrating Matematica software
Alcorn State University Department of Mathematics and Computer Science students and faculty participated in the Mathematica Project Mid-Year Workshop held January 31, 2014, at Jackson State University. The main goal of the workshop was to assess the progress made in integrating Mathematica computation software as a teaching, learning and research tool.
“Two of our students, Isikeli Ongosia majoring in mathematics, and Laurence Warren, a computer science major, jointly presented their solution for a dynamical model involving system of difference equations using Mathematica,” shared Dr. Lixin Yu, professor and department chair. “Their presented problem was based on one of the several models introduced by Dr. Tapan Kumar Tiwari, associate professor, using this Mathematica in his mathematical modeling course.”
Ongosia and Warren will receive $500 each for their presentation under the National Science Foundation Grant. Drs. Tiwari, Yu and Ping Zhang, associate professor, also attended the workshop where students from several universities presented their works.
