Alpha Phi Alpha appoints Alcorn’s President to the World Policy Council
March 23, 2012 – Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Incorporated has named Dr. M. Christopher Brown II as one of its newest members on the World Policy Council established in 1996 to expand the fraternity’s involvement in social issues and global policy.
Brown’s appointment officially begins next Thursday, March 29, during the World Policy Council’s meeting in Washington, D.C. In making the announcement Alpha Phi Alpha President Herman “Skip” Mason said, “We are delighted that Brother Brown has accepted our appointment to serve and I am confident his passion for education and scholarship will benefit our efforts to the highest degree as we work to address issues of concern to our communities, nation and the world.”
Brown is a recognized leader in higher education, with meticulous knowledge in land-grant institutions and HBCUs. He is author of more than a dozen books and a sought after speaker on issues incident to education and public policy.

Current Council members include former Senator Edward W. Brooke (chairman emeritus), Ambassador Horace G. Dawson Jr. (chairman), University President Henry Ponder (vice chairman), Bishop Vinton R. Anderson, Congressman Bobby W. Austin, former Congressman Ronald V. Dellums, former U.S. Ambassador Kenton W. Keith, former LSU Educator Huel D. Perkins, Congressman Charles Rangel, University Professor Cornel West, and a retired U.S. Foreign Service Information Officer Clathan McClain Ross (rapporteur).
New council member Brown, along with members of the Council, will apply profound intellectual energy to help understand alternative means of bringing about the resolution of problems in our nation and internationally. The Council will expand public knowledge of such problems and engage the public in discussion about pertinent issues. The Council, in fulfilling its mission, is non-partisan, gives consideration to domestic and international issues, seeks the counsel of experts in relevant fields, provides perspectives on specific problems and, where practicable, recommends possible solutions.
Brown has received numerous awards, recognitions and appointments including his selection last year to serve on the president’s advisory council for the American Commonwealth Project.
