Alcorn to host 3rd annual Community Resource Development Conference

The Alcorn State University Extension Program (ASUEP) will host its 3rd annual Community Resource Development (CRD) Conference on October 26, 2012, at the Regency Inn Hotel and Convention Center in Jackson, Mississippi, according to Katrina McLin, area community resource development educator and conference chair.

Registration will begin at 8:00 a.m., concurrent sessions and other activities will be featured throughout the day ending with a luncheon.
“Community Works is the theme for this year’s conference, and it is specifically designed to educate those interested in community development about the important challenges and opportunities facing such efforts, said McLin. “A focal point of this year’s conference will be the future trends of rural communities.”

Conference highlights will include topics on business, economic, and faith-based development. Dr. Beverly Divers-White of BSW Consulting and Technology, Little Rock, Arkansas, will serve as the opening keynote speaker. She will present on approaches to community resource development in the Southern Region. The luncheon keynote speaker will be Mr. William M. Buster of the W.K. Kellogg Foundation in Battle Creek, Michigan. Mr. Buster will speak on the importance of collaborative partnerships, leadership and how they are utilized to revitalize communities.

“The attendees can look forward to networking, sharing ideas and information, gaining knowledge about business development, faith-based opportunities, future trends of rural communities, estate planning, grant writing and much more,” McLin shared.

This conference is open to organizers, community leaders, administrators, educators and all persons interested in making communities better.
