Elementary education student selected for Clara Alexander Jackson Scholarship Award
“We are elated to announce that our student Breana Cooper was recently selected as the $1,500 Clara Alexander Jackson Scholarship Award,” stated Dr. Malinda Butler, chairperson, Department of Education and Psychology. “Our faculty recommended Breana because she is a talented scholar and her work is known in the Department, at the University and beyond. Breana serves as an excellent role model to our students.”
A Brookhaven, Mississippi native, Breana N. Cooper, is a senior majoring in elementary education at Alcorn where she is actively involved in University life. She serves as president of the Alcorn Chapter of the Student National Education Association, she is Miss Alpha Kappa Mu Honor Society and a Thurgood Marshall Fellow. Being an honor student, she was on the Dean’s List most of her tenure at Alcorn. Also, as a Ronald E. McNair Summer Research Program scholar, Breana conducted research on “Differentiated Instruction in Diverse Populations” at the University of Mississippi, and presented the research findings at the annual Ronal E. McNair Conference in 2011.
Cooper will receive her award from the Forward Lookers Federated Club on February 2, 2013, at the Student Center at Jackson State University at 10 a.m. The scholarship is named after the founder of the Club, a pioneer in education and an advocate of elementary teachers.
“I am so thankful to my department, to the University and the Forward Lookers Federated Club for selecting me for the scholarship,” shared Breana. “I feel honored and humbled by the award. It feels great to know that my hard work is appreciated.”
