Alcorn’s Vaughn contributes to book about Lincoln University
Dr. Edward L. Vaughn, ’74, a professor in Alcorn State University’s School of Education and Psychology, is the author of a chapter in the recently published book about Lincoln University in Pennsylvania, “Lincoln University: Legendary Light”. The book, published by Turner Mayfield Publishing Co. in March 2014, documents various aspects of student life at Lincoln University.
Edited by Ja A. Jahannes ’64, a psychologist, poet, composer, playwright, social critic and long-time HBCU administrator, the book chronicles poetry, photographs, essays and historical reflections by Lincoln University alumni over a span of more than 50 years.
Vaughn’s chapter entitled “My Days at Lincoln University: Accident or Destiny?” is included among the alumni contributors. It describes the circuitous and meandering path that he followed in applying to Lincoln University in the late 1960s. When asked what drew him to Lincoln University, Vaughn quickly answered that “the innovative curriculum, small classes, stellar reputation of the school, long line of prominent alumni and the fact that it was the HBCU that was the farthest away from Mississippi!” He further stated that “the Lincoln University catalog was available in the counselor’s office only because a schoolmate three years ahead of him in high school was admitted to Lincoln but did not enroll.”
Vaughn, a national officer of the Alumni Association of Lincoln University, is an active supporter of his alma mater.
