Alcorn State University donates to Natchez Stewpot

Alcorn State University continues to be generous in its giving to the less fortunate.

Alcorn collected more than 200 canned goods at its end of the year celebration and donated them to the Natchez Community Stewpot. The Stewpot prepares and serves about 260 meals a day, with about 200 of the meals packaged and delivered. The meals are prepared to feed the elderly, sick and disabled.

Executive Assistant to the President Karen Shedrick, who played an important role in collecting the canned goods, felt great about Alcorn’s contribution to a worthy cause.

“I think that the donations that the Alcorn family made was a great way to help those in need for the holidays,” said Shedrick. “The project was a success and we were happy to give to the Stewpot.”

Alcorn President Dr. Alfred Rankins Jr. showed pride in Alcorn’s employees for their willingness to be a blessing to others.

“There are organizations that serve those in need year round in our communities,” said President Rankins. “The Alcorn family is no stranger to these organizations. You will often find our employees, students and alumni working diligently to not only help, but overcome social gaps and challenges in our communities.”
