Alcorn School of Business presents Ethics Week 2016
On February 15-19, 2016 the Alcorn State University School of Business will present Alcorn’s annual Ethics Week. Ethics Week is a University wide event which draws awareness to and promotes the importance of ethics in all aspects of life. This event includes a variety of activities on campus that culminate with a special Ethics Week program presentation. This year, the special program will be held on Tuesday, February 16, from 12:30- 1:45pm in the auditorium of the Biotechnology building.
The Ethics Week 2016 program will feature guest speaker Jessica “Jay” McLaurin, Alcorn alumni and attorney with The Mitchell Firm in Ridgeland, Mississippi. She graduated from Alcorn in 2004 bachelor’s degree in accounting. As an attorney, she helps families recover financially and emotionally following an injury or death of a loved one and helps to guide them through the complicated maze of their legal situation. McLaurin works on behalf of each client to hold those accountable for the neglected safety of the lives of others in her primary practice of personal injury. She also provides local business and non-profit organizations representation and participates in numerous pro bono activities.
All faculty of Alcorn State University are encouraged to make note of Ethics Week and schedule a discussion of discipline specific ethical issues in their classes during this week. Faculty are also encouraged to offer an incentive to their classes for attending the Ethics Week program.
The Ethics Week began as a state-wide event in 2010 by the Mississippi Universities’ Dean’s Alliance.
“Although other Mississippi universities confine this event to their business schools, at Alcorn it is a University wide event,” said Dr. Pj Forrest, associate professor of marketing and the Ethics Week committee chair. “Alcorn is one of the few universities that continue to hold this event and rigorously emphasize the importance of ethics. At Alcorn, we strive to instill in students a strong ethical foundation as well as convey that as Alcorn alumni they will be expected to be ethical leaders in their chosen fields.”
