Dr. Wanda Fleming named Alcorn’s Human Resources director
Alcorn State University’s Office of Human Resources is under new leadership.
Dr. Wanda Fleming was named the Office’s new human resources director Monday, July 3. In her new role, Fleming is responsible for guiding and managing Alcorn’s provision of human resources services, policies and programs. She is also responsible for all human resources disciplines including recruitment and selection, compensation and benefits, training and development, employee relations and ensuring regulatory compliance.
Prior to her joining Alcorn, Fleming gained experience in the healthcare sector as an administrator at the Jefferson and Claiborne County hospitals. She was also a human resources director and business administrator in the Claiborne County School District.
A native of Port Gibson, Mississippi, Fleming earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Alcorn. She went on to earn both master’s and doctorate degrees from Jackson State University and Walden University.
Fleming is thankful for the opportunity to serve the institution that provided the foundation to a successful career in business.
“I was, and continue to be grateful and excited about the opportunity to work for the University that nurtured my interest in combining business and service in my work life, and provided the foundation necessary to accomplish this goal,” said Fleming. “I am blessed that the position was vacant and that I was chosen to fill it. I consider it an honor and privilege to serve my alma mater.”
One of the main tasks for Fleming and the human resources staff is adhering to the Office’s mission in order to ensure quality services.
“I, along with the outstanding staff in the Office of Human Resources, have already begun to promote and demonstrate the mission, which is to advance the global mission of the University through the acquisition, retention and support of an exceptional faculty and staff.”
Fleming said that she hopes to establish the Office as a provider for innovative and results-oriented human resources services.
