Alcorn Athletics adds two employees
Alcorn State University’s Department of Athletics continues to add to its already talented and dedicated roster.
Cleveland, Miss. native Dorianne Johnson was named associate athletics director and senior women’s administrator, making her the highest-ranking female in the department. Miami, Fla. native John Lewis has been named associate athletics director for administration.
Johnson, who earned her bachelor’s degree in journalism/public relations from the University of Mississippi and her master’s degree from Alabama A&M in human development, will focus on ensuring the department adheres to Title IX and gender equity. Johnson will also oversee Sports Information, Cheer Program, Women’s Soccer, Men’s and Women’s Track, Softball, and Men’s and Women’s golf programs. Johnson brings over 11 years of SWAC experience after serving as assistant women’s basketball coach and recruiting coordinator at Alabama A & M University.
Lewis’s duties will include assisting the intercollegiate director of athletics with day-to-day management of the Department of Athletics. Lewis will also oversee athletics equipment, athletic training and strength and conditioning staff. Lewis has administrative experiences in sponsorship sales, marketing and promotions, tickets, event management, advertising and community engagement. Lewis earned his bachelor’s degree in sociology from the University of Minnesota and a master’s degree in sports management from St. Cloud State University.
Johnson is happy about her new position and eager to starting her Alcorn journey.
“Words can’t express how excited I am to be a part of the Alcorn State University family,” said Johnson. “I’ve known about Alcorn my entire life. Alcorn is on the rise and I am excited to be a part of this evolution.”
Lewis is eager about his upcoming duties at Alcorn.
“I’m ecstatic about this opportunity,” said Lewis. “I feel that this is an exciting time to be in college athletics. I believe that this is what I was born and raised to do.
Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Derek Horne is proud to have Johnson and Lewis as part of the Alcorn team.
“I think both Dorianne and John were great student athletes, coaches and administrators. I think their addition to Alcorn will not only be great for athletics, but they will be great employees for the university as well,” said Horne.
