Dr. Ruth Nichols wins Natchezian Woman of the Year Award
The people of Natchez, Mississippi rewarded one of Alcorn State University’s own for her outstanding contributions to the city.
Dr. Ruth Nichols, special assistant to the president, was named Natchezian Women of the Year at The Natchez-Adams County Chamber of Commerce’s annual gala Tuesday, Nov. 1 at the Natchez Convention Center. Community leaders in Natchez who felt she displayed exceptional community service in the Natchez area nominated Nichols.
Nichols, who also plays a role in economic development in Natchez, appreciates the praise she received from her peers.
“Receiving this award was a tremendously humbling experience,” said Nichols. “There is no more meaningful recognition than that which comes from your peers and colleagues. It is such an honor to represent Alcorn in our communities, and to be recognized for community and economic development accomplishments is very gratifying.”
Although it was a special occasion for Nichols, she doesn’t take all of the credit for her success. She credits her team for being the driving force behind her accomplishment.
“Very little is accomplished by single individuals in a community. In all of my success, I have to acknowledge the extraordinary efforts that my team displays. They are good people who dedicate their time and hearts to caring for others.”
