Justin Mathis accepts new position at Southern University
Justin Mathis’ tenure as coordinator of Admissions, Recruitment and Outreach at Alcorn State University has come to an end.
The 2011 and 2015 Alcorn graduate was hired as Southern University’s new assistant director for Recruitment. Mathis will be responsible for developing relationships with high school guidance counselors, college transfer counselors, and corporate and community organizations. His new position will include supervising and assisting the recruiters in generating inquiries from prospective students and training the recruitment staff in organizing and implementing information from prospective students.
Mathis is grateful for being hired and looks forward to joining the Southern family.
“I feel extremely humbled to have been selected for this new opportunity,” said Mathis. “I am grateful to be in such a favorable position. I’m excited to join the Jaguar family. I look forward to working with the new staff and embracing Jaguar nation!”
Mathis took time to acknowledge those at Alcorn who contributed to shaping him into the man he is today.
“I would like to thank all of my mentors who helped mold me during my tenure. If it had not been for their guidance, I would not be the young professional I am today. I would like to thank Katangelia Tenner for allowing me to be myself and keeping me encouraged. I would also like to thank Alcorn’s awesome admissions team for all they do at the university.”
Although Mathis is excited to start his journey at Southern, he will miss his time as an Alcorn employee.
“Leaving Alcorn is bittersweet. I love Alcorn with a passion and everyone is aware of that. Such love has been expressed through my work ethic. Alcorn is a special place that I will always hold dear in my heart. My love for Alcorn is everlasting because it was beneath the shades of giant trees where I gained knowledge and character.”
