Perry W. Brumfield was appointed September 1, 2105 as the Director of Operations for the Alcorn State University School of Agriculture, Research, Extension and Applied Sciences (AREAS). Brumfield, a native of Walthall County, is a 1980 graduate of Alcorn State with a B. S. degree in Agriculture. He completed his M.S. in Agriculture and Extension Education from Mississippi State University in 1990.

Brumfield started his career with Mississippi State University as an Assistant County Agent in Marion County from 1980 to 1985. He was later promoted to County Agent/County Director over the entire staff in Kemper County. His major responsibilities were to coordinate educational programs, workshops, seminars, field days, group outings as well as disseminate information to enhance the knowledge of farmers, ranchers, homeowners, and their families by assisting them on ways to improve their quality of life.

Brumfield worked as an Area Agent for Lincoln and Lawrence counties from 1991 to 1996 with various agricultural responsibilities. He later served as County Director/Ag Agent for both counties. In 1999 to 2006, he served as County Director/County Agent for Lincoln County.

He retired in 2006, and later worked with the National Network of Forest Practitioners as a consultant from 2010-2015 for underserved landowners in forestry throughout South Mississippi. In this role, the major focus was on increasing the value of property through forestry by educating small farmers on the procedures to sell timber for the highest dollar value. He, also, assisted them with understanding the importance of developing a management plan, as well as informing them on cost share incentives that could aid in achieving their goals.

Perry Brumfield is married to Annie Butler Brumfield, and they have 2 adult children and 6 grandchildren.
