School of Agriculture staff participates in Save Rural America Rally
Staff members in Alcorn State University’s School of Agriculture, Research, Extension and Applied Sciences attended a rally that discussed the value of rural living.
Dr. Ivory W. Lyles, dean and director of land-grant programs, and Carolyn Banks, director of the Farm Outreach Project, both from Alcorn’s School of Agriculture, Research, Extension and Applied Sciences were among several presenters at the South Central Mississippi Save Rural America Rally Tuesday, June 16.
The rally, sponsored by the Winston County Self Help Cooperative, was held on the Robert Robinson Farm in Brookhaven, Miss. The theme of the rally was, “Buying Local Products Help Create Local Jobs.”
Dr. Lyles credited Alcorn with keeping the rural way of life in surrounding areas thriving.
“Mississippi is blessed to provide a quality rural way of life for so many of us to raise our families and provide a source of income. Alcorn State University’s School of Agriculture, Research, Extension and Applied Sciences assists in maintaining that way of life through its research and educational programs.”
A tour of the Robinson Farm followed the presentations.
