The Office of First Year Experience holds Spring 2014 New Student Orientation

The Office of First Year Experience held Spring 2014 New Student Orientation on Tuesday, January 7, 2014. New Student Orientation is designed to provide freshmen and new transfer students with an introduction to the wide array of academic, intellectual, leadership, cultural and social experiences available to them at Alcorn State University. It is also an important time for forming relationships with their classmates, roommates and other members of the Alcorn community. The program is organized by the Division of Student Success and Enrollment Management.

“The first day of college will live forever in their memories. This day marked the beginning of a long journey filled with new adventures and first impressions for each new student at Alcorn,” stated Dr. Patricia White, director of the First Year and Transfer Experience Program.

Greeting new students upon their arrival were the First Year Experience student leaders, Dr. Carl Cunningham, vice president of Student Success and Enrollment Management, and other staff. Immediately after Orientation, students attended a lunch, gathering in the Dr. Clinton Bristow Jr. Dining Facility with staff and student leaders.

“The information sessions offered students the keys to a successful experience at Alcorn. Students gathered information on a range of important topics that will be beneficial to help them survive and thrive during their freshmen year,” shared White. “A panel of administrators including representatives from the areas of admissions, student accounts, financial aid, information technology, health services, sustainability, campus police and diversity and inclusion provided information about their services and resources.”

Ty’eshia Miles, a new transfer student from Byram, Mississippi, said that she fell in love with Alcorn. “New Student Orientation gave me a lot of insight about the University and helped answer questions that I had.”

Alcorn welcomes all new and transfer students to the University. Make the most of your academic career.
