Alcorn’s Honor Student Organization supports Child Development Laboratory Center
The Alcorn State University Honor Student Organization (HSO) members and the Student-Athlete Services students collaborated to conduct a “Easter Service Project” with children at Alcorn’s Child Development Laboratory Center Thursday, March 24.
The HSO members created twenty-five Easter baskets containing a small rabbit, crayons, books, pencils, stickers, plastic eggs and individually wrapped candy and gave them to the children. The HSO members and student-athletes conducted a group demonstration session that included a book reading, bunny hop game, coloring book activity and an Easter Egg Hunt. Due to rainy weather, the students hid 100 Easter eggs in the classrooms for the children to find. The children ranged from ages six weeks to five years old.
Dr. Wandra Arrington, assistant director of the Honors Curriculum Program and HSO advisor, thought that this was a great university collaborative service project.
“Our students are always surprising me by continuing to serve the university and local communities,” said Arrington. “They strengthened their civil responsibility by helping others and bringing joy to young children. They did a great job!”
