Sydney Pulliam completes research internship at Iowa State University
After spending the summer researching, Alcorn State University sophomore and Kansas City, Missouri native Sydney Pulliam is more informed about being a chemist.
Sydney completed her summer internship at Iowa State University’s School of Agriculture and Life Sciences Saturday, Aug. 5. During the two-month program, Sydney learned more about research, professional development and analyzing data.
Interacting with other researchers and scholars and getting a closer look at being a chemist were the highlights for Sydney, who is a biochemistry major.
“The internship was an amazing experience,” said Sydney. “I was able to meet other undergraduates and black professionals from colleges across the nation. I enjoyed networking with them and doing field research the most.”
The internship showed Sydney the diverse opportunities that will be available for her once she begins seeking careers in her field. She’s looking forward to exploring her many options after she graduates.
“The internship taught me how to apply the concepts of chemistry to other fields of study. Working with painted turtles in their natural habitat taught me that chemistry relates to so many areas of study, and there are so many different things that I can do with my degree.”
Sydney hopes to become a prosthetic practitioner and later pursue a doctorate degree in rehabilitation sciences.
