Get a library card?
Answer: To obtain a J.D. Boyd library card, students of Alcorn State University must bring a valid ID GOLD card and complete a library card application at the Circulation Desk.
Check out a book in the library?
Answer: To check out books in the library, click on Circulation Desk and see the Borrowing Privileges.
Find course reserve materials?
Answer: You may find information about course reserve materials under Circulation Desk, then scroll down page to Reserve Materials.
Get a group study room?
Answer: To use a group study room, students Alcorn State University must show a valid ASU GOLD card and complete the group study room application; click on Circulation Desk for further information.
Find items in the J.D. Boyd Library?
Answer: To find items in the library, click on one of the categories below:
- Library books in the General Collection
Library books in the General Collection (000s-999s) are circulating materials located on the Second floor. The books are arranged on the shelves by Dewey call numbers affixed to the spine or front of book. To locate a book, search the online public access catalog (OPAC) by title, author, keyword, or subject. Write down the call number displayed on the page, and then proceed to the shelves to retrieve. You may also browse the shelves (open book stack) for additional materials.
Library books in the Reference Collection (000s-999s) are non-circulating materials located on the Main floor. These books are arranged on the shelves by Dewey call numbers but has the prefix "R" in front of the number which is affixed to the spine or front of book. To locate a book, search the online public access catalog (OPAC) by title, author, keyword, or subject. Write down the call number displayed on the page, and then proceed to the shelves to retrieve the book. You may also browse the shelves (open book stack) for additional materials.
- Instructional Media collection and equipment
Click on Instructional Media Center, and scroll down to Media Room.
- Government Documents Collection
Click on Government Documents, and scroll down to Reference Service.
- Archives and Special Collections
Click on Archives and Special Collections.
- Print and electronic journals, periodicals, and newspapers.
Click on Serials.

Use Audiovisual Items?
Answer: The Instructional Media Center on the Second floor in the J.D. Boyd Library is for you to use audiovisual items, which include audiovisual collections, audiovisual equipment and facilities. You may find all the information about what we have, where and when to check out, and how to use the AV items, by visit the Instructional Media Center in person, or by phone (601-877-6359), or via the university's web page http://www.alcorn.edu.
At the University home page under "Academics", you will see the University Library's link http://www.alcorn.edu/Academics/Library/Default.aspx?id=1413 .
By click on "Departments" of the library's page, you will see "Instructional Media Center" (http://www.alcorn.edu/Academics/Library/Default.aspx?id=5821); this provides you all the information about how to use audiovisual items.
