President Brown acknowledges the impact of Governor Waller on Alcorn State University

December 1, 2011 – Alcorn State University’s 18th President M. Christopher Brown II issued the following statement on the passing of Governor Waller:

“Yesterday, I learned of the passing of former Governor Bill Waller Sr. The Alcorn family extends our sympathy and condolences to his wife Carroll, his brother Donald and children Bill Jr., Robert, Edward and Donald. Governor Waller and Alcorn enjoyed a special relationship. His support and partnership with the late Dr. Walter Washington, 15th president of Alcorn State, promulgated many efforts to expand access and opportunity for the citizens of Mississippi. Most notable in Alcorn's history, was the legislation (House Bill 298) changing the institution's name from Alcorn A&M College to Alcorn State University in 1974. Governor Waller will forever be a friend of Alcorn and be remembered as a venerable servant leader in our eyes."
